About Me

I’m Robin Ohringer, Ph.D

You’ve probably come to my website because you are facing difficulties you feel unable to manage on your own. Or perhaps you have become aware of patterns in your behavior or relationships that you would like to change.

Psychotherapy is a process in which talking with a trained clinician allows people to better understand themselves and their behavior. New ways of coping with problems can be tried out, and better ways of managing stress can be learned.

In psychotherapy, people learn how past experiences lead them to form coping strategies which may interfere with reaching current life goals. Psychotherapy also helps people cope with the transitions and losses we all face as a part of living.

This website will provide some information about me and my practice. However, the best way to determine whether psychotherapy would be helpful to you is to schedule a consultation with a trained professional.

  • Experience

I have been a practicing psychotherapist for forty years and in full-time private practice for the past twenty-five years. In my practice, I work with children, adolescents, individual adults, and couples. Prior to entering full-time private practice, I was on the staff of the McLean Hospital in Belmont, MA. I also taught for twelve years as an Adjunct Associate Professor at Simmons College School of Social Work.

  • My Professional Background and Training

I have experience and expertise in psychodynamic, relational, family systems, play therapy, mind-body stress reduction, and cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy. My own clinical style is eclectic, borrowing from all of these schools of thought depending on the problems experienced by any particular person. My work with patients is also informed by recent research in the areas of developmental psychology and neuroscience.

  • My Education and Post-Graduate Training

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Child Study from Tufts University, a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Smith College, and a Doctorate in Social Work from Simmons College. I have a certificate in psychoanalytic psychotherapy from the Boston Psychoanalytic Institute, and advanced training in EMDR and Mind-Body Relaxation Therapy.
